Our Pals Ken and Dayton

Nathan and I were ready for a date night which included listening to Ken Burns and Dayton Duncan talk about their new National Parks series. We were even more excited when we arrived and were seated right behind them! How cool is that. Listening to Ken Burns is so inspirational - he oozes passion about what he does and especially about the National Parks. It was a phenomenal evening followed by some yummy Mexican food, well, yummy for Boston.

40th Birthday Fun

Our friends, Daryl and Mike, turned forty within a month of each other. They threw a wonderful party at the Windsor Club with dancing and gambling. It was super fun.

Leslie, me, Daryl, Teyah and Kelly - Angier Moms

Nathan made it after a full day of work and the need to go back to the office after the party. We had a great time.

House of Blues

We were excited to receive an invitation to the VIP (not as glamorous as it sounds) opening at the House of Blues in Boston through Nathan's Guitar Center connections. We'd been to the original HOB in Cambridge when Nathan was in school. It was an intimate venue to see live music but they closed it a few years ago. The new HOB is amazing! It's across from Fenway and really just lovely. We enjoyed an almost Arizona Mexican dinner before heading to the club. I don't know if it was really that delicious or if we're just so desperate for good Mexican food! We then had to wait in the freezing cold for about 45 minutes to get in. I did realize that I'm not young anymore as waiting in line to go to a club has zero appeal to me. We enjoyed an opening act and then waited for The Blues Brothers to hit the stage. I'm embarrassed to say that I've never seen the movie so my reference points were nil. But, wow oh wow, they were fantastic! We snagged a spot about five rows from the stage (standing). Belushi came through the crowd, passing between us. It was really fun. The only downside is that we had to leave 1/2 way through to get home to relieve the sitter. We'll definitely go back!

Thoreauly Fun

Nathan and I are back to planning our once a month dates for each other. We trade months and the idea is to plan something the other person really wants to do. We've made this year very 2009 with the goal of planning inexpensive dates (not including babysitting!). Naturally, it's a competition so we'll see at the end of the year who came up with the best date for the least amount of money. We took advantage of MLK Day and opted for a day date, which I sometimes think is more of a treat! Off to Concord we drove for breakfast at a cute French bistro, La Provence. We'd stopped there once before for lunch with the kids. Unfortunately, it wasn't as yummy as we remembered. But, hey, a quiet breakfast just the two of us, they could have served us snow! Then we went to Walden Pond to test out our snowshoes.
Snowshoes had been our 2007 Christmas present, but due to my growing belly last winter we only tested them out in the backyard. Walden Pond was beautiful. There were very few people there. We tromped around the lake and even traversed it. Let me tell you, snowshoeing is a bit of a challenge for the leader. You have to essentially march to pack down a path. Luckily, I'm married to a great marcher.

The pond was so quiet and the trees just beautiful with snow still on the branches. Date total: $22.05
